The year of the vote

This article about the year of the vote brought to my attention a couple things. First off many coalitions of people wanting to get the youth active. There are many progressive groups such as Rock the Vote and Vote or Die who are trying to get the youth more involved in their futures but promoting voting. Whether it be on anything as small as a local referendum or as big as a president these coalitions feel its necessary to give youth a chance to make change happen. Barack Obama is very liberal in the sense of wanting change and the things that he wants to change the youth agree with. The youth have so much they want to change that they want to get out and they feel like a conservative like John McCain would not be a sufficient person to get it done.

I feel like this will be will be the year of the youth vote because based on the statistics youth have been getting involved a lot more in elections. They are more for a candidate who will listen to them, be progressive on issues that matter to youth, and someone who won't veto an idea just because it doesn't have to do with everyone.

The incumbent president George W. Bush has not been well liked in the past and the youth weren't as into voting back then because there weren't as many encouraging types of media. However, I think that since they realized they had suffrage and were able to make change they are more for voting and helping to build their future. Different forms of media are reaching out to youth constituents in college areas mainly and if all of these youth vote that means that they could change the future of the United States.
